It’s always fun playing with new toys: MultiCharts Data Playback in New 6.0 Version

by Administrator on February 9, 2010

It’s always fun playing with new toys.  As mentioned, has recently partnered with MultiCharts, due in large part to one very large benefit over Tradestation – Portfolio Testing, which is a prerequisite for examining backtests for pair trades in combination.  The move has been relatively seamless since Multicharts can read EasyLanguage.

The recent volatility could be here until a currency crises occurs, so what better time to go back and see how pair trades did during times of turmoil, such as the Asian Flu in 1997, or the fall of 2008?

Multicharts has the ability to replay and set markers where you would’ve traded.  You can select the date you would like to start your playback along with Min by Min or Day by Day Charts (see attached picture below).

There are lots of great tools out there to help, and why not take the Free 30 Day Trial and not only try the Portfolio Testing Capabilities but also Data Playback!  Sometimes you have to try on different shoes to see which one fits the best.

We will continue to use both Tradestation and Multicharts, due in no small part to their very large database Tradestation offers. Although please note that if you have Tradestation you can always purchase add-ons for portfolio testing to help you conduct this type of testing (for example:  the simple yet elegant PortfolioMerge).

We hope you enjoy the new toy!
